An invitation for more.

And in rolls 2023.

As per Mexican tradition (which I’m pretty sure is actually an historically Spanish custom but I’m not going to be the gringa to break that truth to a group of chilangos) every one is granted a set of wishes for each New Year. For these wishes to come to fruition, one must frantically consume a grape per second, while concentrating with precision on each wish, for the first 12 seconds of the New Year.

And since I rang 2023 in with Mexicans, I did things the “Mexican” way.

Like everyone else, I wrote a simple list of 12 of my utmost desires for 2023. When the clock struck midnight, I stuffed my face with wine-sweetened grapes, (nearly choking because 1 grape per second is a LOT more challenging than it sounds) while mentally reciting my hopes and dreams.

It was fun. Maybe you did it too.

And if you did, I’m here to get real with you and admit a rather valuable truth.

12 wishes is simply NOT enough.

I, you, we deserve more.

In light of this revelation, I broke that figurative limitation by writing a comprehensive list of all the things I want to invite more of in 2023.

More tea.
More art.
More love.
More family.
More stability.
More vulnerability.
More romance.
More peace.

More bikes.

More hikes.
More patience.
More kindness.
More cinnamon.
More lazy Sundays.

More early mornings.

More game nights.

More Spanish.
More weights.
More books.
More plants.

More gold.
More trust.
More listening.

More chewing.

More dancing.
More ease.
More new.
More me.
More you.
More Mexico.
More now.

And more love letters, to you and from you.

Happy New Year.

With love,

Bethany
